Electrical Facials

Electrical facials are the technological advances in skincare that not everyone knows about. The 1500s saw the Egyptians using sandpaper to help rid of scars, and marketing companies have shown various forms of electrotherapy since the beginning of the 19th century. Eventually, it seemed to have been adopted by the medical industry and into the beauty industry – all because of the successful interventions that electrical treatments had on the skin and body. It still continues today.

As a comparison, first, consider the various types of physical exercise and notice how it requires repetition to increase strength and tightening in the targeted body part used. When it comes to electrical modalities you let the stimulation from the electrical current do the work for you. Over time you reap the rewards of optimum results. The general effects of electro-muscle stimulation (EMS), also known as Faradic include the following improvisations:

”It is proven to improve skin tone of specific muscles, and by producing reshaping effects for figure correction and face lifting. It has also been shown to increase the metabolism of the stimulated muscles, as well as waste products that are more readily eliminated from muscles. This is achieved by the pumping actions on the lymph vessels and crowns as the muscles contract and relax” (Beauty Therapy Level 3, Nordman, 2016)

Body treatments include, again, lymphatic drainage as this helps improve cellulite conditions, posture, appearance and contour improvement and is beneficial for those that are not able to exercise. Facial treatments include improved firmness of muscles and enhanced skin tone and colour.

Fundamentally, our muscle fibre’s motor nerves get stimulated by the electrical current, which causes the muscle fibres to shorten and muscles to contract. Similar to when we partake in isometric exercises, it produces toning and firming effects. It also reshapes the body and contours the area, and this is due to the focused positioning of the machinery electric probe.

It can be similar to the effects of exercise. Muscle fatigue, reddening of the skin and heated feelings can occur. Also, homecare will need to be administered to support the treatment and to further help improve the skin tone. Such as facial exercises, drinking lots of water, cosmetic skin care application, nutritional advice and most importantly, partaking in a regular course of treatments after the initial treatment will need to be taken. This is to gain optimal results from the treatments on the skin and facial features.
